Better insulation and no cold spots near windows makes Pilkington K Glass™ perfect for conservatories. In fact, it will typically keep an unheated conservatory comfortable for a greater part of the year than ordinary double glazing. Allowing you to make the most of your conservatory all year round. Pilkington K Glass™ can also be toughened or laminated for safety and greater security.
SGG PLANITHERM is a clear float glass, which has been coated with metallic oxides by magnetically enhanced cathodic sputtering under vacuum conditions. This sputtered coating is highly reflective to long-wave heat radiation, otherwise known as a “low emissivity” or low-e coating. This greatly reduces heat loss and ensures that double-glazed units incorporating SGG PLANITHERM provide excellent thermal insulation. SGG PLANITHERM is neutral in appearance and has a high light transmittance factor. It can be used in a wide range of applications: windows in houses, facades and windows in office blocks, public buildings, etc.
The following table shows some typical U values for vertical insulating glazing Pilkington Insulating Units and the effect of using K Glass, Argon and varying cavity widths. The lower the U Value - the better the insulator. U-value is the measurement of heat transfer through a given building material, glass, etc. In the UK all U Values are quoted as W/m˛K.
